A Letter from the Principal
Welcome to our web site! At Schiel Primary School for Arts Enrichment (Schiel PSAE) we are all about the kids! Our mission is to teach academics to exceed promotion standards with an emphasis on the arts. Our goal is to integrate academics with the arts to provide a rich educational experience, which stimulates the intellect of our students. We also provide a safe and positive learning environment for students to develop as learners and as members of a diverse community. Our 2008 Ohio Achievement Test (OAT) scores have arrived and we are very excited about the results! I am thrilled to report we scored 86% on the OAT reading test, exceeding the state reading indicator by 11%. In math we scored 79%, surpassing the state math indicator by 4%.We have vaulted two categories on the Ohio State Report Card and have earned the highest ranking in Ohio as an "Excellent School!" Regarding the federal portion of the "No Child Left Behind Act", our Annual Yearly Progress (AYP) surpassed every target. We scored 88.8% in reading, exceeding AYP target by 11.8%. In math we scored 75.6%, exceeding AYP target by 7.1%. Every student in our school participated in the testing process, for a participation score of 100%. I am very proud of our third grade students, their parents and the entire faculty and staff for working together to achieve these outstanding results! The faculty and staff at Schiel PSAE are committed to our mission and set high expectations for our students. We provide a setting where every child is valued and respected. The faculty incorporates multiple learning activities to enhance instruction. Furthermore, every student will participate in a variety of arts, which include dance, vocal music, visual art, and Suzuki Strings. Students will also attend plays and symphonies, visit museums, and experience visits from the world famous Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra! We also have nationally renowned artists visit our school and provide instruction to our students. Recently, we have expanded before school and after school art activities. We offer a full compliment of the arts including dance, harp, percussion and acting class. Lessons are provided by professional artists at a minimum cost. In addition to these activities, we also have piano lessons and keyboard lessons after school. We currently have over 100 students participating in these programs! Schiel School has after school piano lessons every Tuesday, from 3:45 PM to 5:00 PM. The class is taught by Mrs. Youngwon Park French. The class features rhythmic movement and keyboarding skills in the Schiel Keyboard lab. The cost is $28.00 per month, due at the beginning of each month. Students must pay for any lessons that they miss. If school is cancelled, a credit of $7.00 applies to the following month. Students really need a keyboard at home to be successful. For more information call Mrs. French at 513-679-1476, or email parkfrenchstudio@gmail.com Half hour private lessons are also available for $20.00 per lesson. Students from outside the school are welcome, as this is an after school program. Parents must pick up their students at 5:00 PM. After 5:10 PM a $20.00 late charge is applied to the following month's lesson fees. Dance instruction is specialized in the following areas: Fundamentals of Ballet Technique, Beginning Tap, Ballet Technique 1 and Ballet Technique 2, along with Musical Theater Dance. In addition to dance we will also have instructions in Harp. Harp lessons are available in Fundamental Harp, Beginning Harp, Harp 1, and private lessons. Our teachers will assist you in selecting the proper class. Percussion lessons include a one time cost of $23.22 for materials. The materials are on pair of snare drum sticks, one practice pad and a method book. Lessons are $21.00 and begin January 24, 2008 and end on May 14, 2008. Acting class is now being offered on Tuesday morning beginning at 8 AM in the library and ending at 9 AM. The first lesson begins on Tuesday February 5, 2008 and ends on Tuesday March 11, 2008 at a cost of $50.00. Scholarships are available to students. Students will learn comedy improvisation, basic acting technique and finish the year in a play! We are proud to announce that last year we had 42 of our students accepted to SCPA as incoming 4th graders! Schiel students dominated this year's 4th grade class with over 65% of the class being our students! Please come and visit us at Schiel Primary School for Arts Enrichment. We look forward to meeting with you and answering your questions. And remember, "Just don't wish upon a star, be one!" Sincerely, Roger R. Lewis |
