The Arts Enrichment is a program designed to enhance the education of primary students by exposing them to many types of artistic expression. Students explore, define, display, and interpret the arts through hands-on experiences. Creativity, self-expression and problem-solving taught through the arts contribute to academic learning and support of the standards. The arts program at Schiel PSAE is a partnership that promotes exposure to a wide variety of genre in the visual and performing arts.

The general music program at Schiel follows the current standards adopted by the National Education Association and currently being finalized by the State of Ohio. From Kindergarten through Third Grade students develop vocal and listening skills, and have many experiences on classroom instruments, such as piano keyboards and recorders. Students become knowledgeable of the basic components of music – melody, rhythm, tempo, dynamics and have many enrichment experiences such as symphony concerts, ballet and introduction to opera.
Starting in kindergarten, Schiel artists learn to see, make and understand Art. They learn the vocabulary of art and how to handle art tools and materials. All students work in the areas of drawing, painting, print- making, sculpture and crafts. They also visit museums to see Art in Cincinnati. In an enjoyable classroom environment, students are motivated to explore Art and express themselves in an imaginative and personal manner.
The Dance/Movement program introduces students to many exciting experiences. It explores areas such as body position, space awareness, loco motor movement, non-loco motor movement, balance, directionality, coordination skills, use of language, choreography, and much more. Activities range from creative movement, ballet, modern, jazz, aerobics, international dance, and dance history. There are also many enrichment experiences, such as attending ballets, modern dance, and other performances.
The Suzuki and Third Grade Group Violin programs at Schiel offer opportunities for all students to study violin during their four years at the school free of charge. Parents who can commit to coming to the school 1/2 hour per week, can receive individual instruction for their child. The Suzuki philosophy believes that all children can learn by developing their talent through good instruction, parental involvement and practice. We at Schiel know this to be true.
