Academics

The academic program at Schiel is designed to provide our students with differentiated instruction to enhance student achievement toward state promotion standards.

To assist students in becoming better readers, we have adopted the Voyager Universal Literacy program. Voyager is a data-researched, K-3 reading program that has raised student achievement, and teaches all literacy-capable children to read. The program identifies student in three groups: On Track Readers, Emergent Readers, and Struggling Readers. Voyager then provides lessons and interventions to meet the needs of the students in each group.

Schiel has many academic enrichment and intervention opportunities for students.

We also have a certified Reading Specialist and seven Instructional Assistants on staff who tutor students in small groups and one-on-one in the areas of reading and math.

Schiel is very proud to announce that five teachers are National Board Certified.

National Board Certification is a voluntary, rigorous, year-long, professional development/assessment process to determine if a teacher meets the high standards established by the National Board to be considered "accomplished" in his or her area of teaching.

The teachers who hold this certification are Stephanie Amsbary, Janice Beaver, Annette Castle, Stacy Kloth, and Karla Ziesmann.
